Oak Maze-gill Fungi

Oak Maze-gill
I found this stick lying along one of the trails some time ago.  I think I know the dog who was playing with it.  I picked it up because of the fungi growing on it.

I suspect it is beyond fruiting.  I am trying to learn how one can determine when fruiting happens.  Fruiting, I am sure you know, is when the fungus is releasing spores.  I think this would be considered asexual reproduction.  The spores land in or on the media, the log or the earth, and grow into fungus.
