North American F-86F Hay Maker

The RF-86F above was the reconnaissance variant of the well known F-86 Super Sabre.  It looked so much like the F-86 Super Sabre that they applied a painted picture of the 50 cal gun ports to fool the enemy into thinking the unarmed Hay Maker was a standard Super Sabre.

 As a photographer, I find the reconnaissance aircraft interesting.  I like looking at the cameras used.

K-17 Camera with Film Magazine and 6 inch Lens.

  RF-86Fs carried a single K-17 camera fitted with 6" focal length lens.  Widely employed by US Army Air Forces during WW II,. the versatile K-17 camera was useful for reconnaissance, bomb damage assessment, mapping.  The K-17 used 9" x 9" format film and could be fitted with a 6", 12", or 24" focal length lenses.

I have watched these grow beside my house for about 20 years.  They are in the daisy family, draught tolerant and in the sunflower family.

They have taproots, alternate leaves and the "petals" are really bracts.

The dark needle-like crystals are stibnite.

 It has been used in cosmetics since 3000 BC.  It is a component of modern safety matches.  Large deposits of it are rare.
