Mushrooms

Fly Agaric Mushroom
This is a mushroom I have admired for years.  I now think that I had it confused with another mushroom in the same family.  I used to call it Pincone Lepidella.  Both kinds grow in the island of the parking lot.  My error, I think, stemmed from confusion about the plates in my ID book,  Mushrooms by Kent H. and Vera B. McKnight.  I used to think that the plates were all in color but a few were not.  Recently, I have come to understand that the ones in "black and white" were showing color.  I have come to respect the accuracy of the plates this season to a greater extent.

Fly Agaric Mushroom
The book says that it is poison.  Do not eat!

I also learned some things about the parts of this mushroom which I will share tomorrow.

Happy Halloween

Pumpkin on Rail
How many pumpkins can you find in this image?  These were there one morning coming from I know not where.  They reminded me Halloween was coming.

Tree Root Face
This snarling face resembling an owl in my imagination reminded me of Halloween also.

I made this capture using a Sigma 105 mm lens, f/8 and 1/4 ".  It is an 11 image stack captured using CamRanger with step medium.

Happy Halloween, everyone.

Pinecone Lepidell Mushroom

Pinecone Lepidella Mushroom Gills
I am still looking for these to emerge.  Granted they may have come during this several days of rain.  I recently purchased a lovely shot of one of these from Linda Fugate.  I have loved them for years.

I captured this image using a Sigma 70-300 mm lens at f/22 and 1.5".  The date was 10-23-2005.

Magnolia Randy

Magnolia Randy
I sold two 5x7 prints and one 8x10 of this beautiful spring flower over the years.  I captured the image in April of 2005.  This, as I am sure you know, grows on a tree. The tree grew at Kingwood Center.

I used the Sigma 70 - 300 mm lens a lot for shots like this because I could not get close.  It was set at f/5.6 and I used a shutter of 1/45".

Grandiflora Rose Earth Song

Grandiflora Rose Earth Song
I used to like going to Kingwood Center in July to catch the roses in bloom.  I photographed this beautiful rose on the same visit during which I photographed the Sea Urchin Cactus, July 12, 2006.  I used a Sigma 70 - 300 lens, f/8, 1/45 second.

I don't know why I am showing all of these pink flowers but I like them today.

Sea Urchin Cactus

Sea Urchin Cactus
This plant lives or lived in to arid part of the green house at Kingwood Center.  I thought it beautiful in bloom.  I just stepped in during one visit to the grounds on July 12, 2006.  I used a Sigma 24 - 70 mm lens, f/22, .3" shutter.

I placed a black velvet cloth on the shelf around the pot creating a background.  The plant comes from South America.

Barn Anderson Road

Barn Anderson Road
Back when gas prices were lower and I still had my 1994 Bonneville I used to drive around looking for pictures.  This one was shot on a year which boasted beautiful fall colors.  The date?  10-30-2007.
