Eucrosia Bicolor

Eucrosia Bicolor

It was first described in 1816 in Ecuador or Peru.  It grows from a large bulb (4.5cm).
This image from Kingwood Center succulent house in Feb. 2009.  This is a nine image stack.

Little Bluestem

Little Bluestem, AKA  Schizachyrium scoparium
This my favorite grass in the autumn and winter.  When I think of it I think of the short video below.  It is much shorter than big bluestem at about waist high.  As you can see from this image it disperses its seeds in the wind.  We have it growing thickly on the rise North East of the pond.  It, too, is a prairie grass.

Brochantite

Brochantite
This specimen is from South West Australia, to be exact Widgiemooltha.  The green crystals are brochantite.  I am unsure about the other formations.  This specimen was not wet or covered with anything to make it shine when I photographed it.  The FOV, field of view, is 2.25mm and 9.4x on the sensor.

Brochantite
This sample is from near Paoli, Paul's Valley, Oklahoma.  The FOV is 3.57mm and is 6.68x on the sensor.

I remember reading that, back to Australia, Widgiemooltha is a tiny outpost in a deserted land.  They said the little "town" has only a restaurant and maybe a hotel.  Visiting is encouraged.

Tall Ironweed

Tall Ironweed
Tall Ironweed is 7' to 8' tall.  It has purple/lavender flowers.  I erroneously called it New York Ironweed until I saw the light.  It is popular for dried flower arrangements.  It is also known as Vernonia gigantea.  It has flying seed dispersal similar to Milkweed.
