Metal Prints Conclusion

Cardinal Print
I made this shot with a spare camera while photographing or filming woodpeckers.  Lots of people seem to like cardinal shots.

The Metal Prints Project is starting to wind down.  The last prints have been printed.  I think that a four day time period for producing a print allows enough curing time at all stages.  I am turning out two prints each day from my little assembly line.

I have tried spraying the Premier Art Print Shield while the print is laying down and I like it.  Runs are less a problem.  I think I get more on the print and it is a more efficient use of the spray.  I have decided to put one coat on before I trim the edges.  That protects the printed surface during the remainder of the steps.  Later, before it leaves the assembly line, I give it one more coat.

Dragonfly Print
I photograph insects often during their season.  I had a few, according to me, outstanding shots last year even with the fewer insects available.

I am going to add these prints for sale on my website soon.  I want to get it done before I am back outside most of the time.  I must give some thought to how I will present them.

American Elm

American Elm
I sold this one last week to that same client.

My favorite one of this tree is below.

American Elm & Waxing Crescent Moon
This image was captured before sunrise.  It was cold!  I set up using my flashlight.  Of course, the heavenly bodies do not wait for the slow photographer, which I am.  The moon was moving toward the tree at what seemed to me lightening speed.

Waxing Crescent Moon
I decided that I needed a shot of the moon.  Soon after this shot, it got into the tree.

I cloned the moon out of the tree and cut and pasted the moon in where I had seen it just seconds or minutes earlier.

American Elm
I know that some think one should not do what I have just described.  I don't seem to have any problem with doing it.  I really like what the moon adds.  Maybe I hang out with artists too much.  I painter does this sort of thing all the time.  Feel free to comment.

Stones Found

Stones Print
This is another in my "Stones Found" series.  I recently had an inquiry about another one of these being too orange for the decor.  I think this will satisfy that question.

My friend, Paul, asked if these were as I found them.  I did not move the rocks and stones.  I increased the saturation, selectively on the pink and blue rocks.

I feel that I have developed a product which is a great alternative to traditional framing.  I have not worked out the cost as yet, but think it will cost me much less and I am selling something I made myself, not someone else's frame, maybe not mitered that well.

I like the appearance of the back with black standoff which is painted with water based latex paint.  I use the acid free black mat with the black showing at the back.

I currently have some of these and soon more of them displayed at ADCD, Ashland County Dental Clinic.  They will be glad to let you see them.  They sell for $50.00 and are covered by my "Print Quality Guarantee."

If anything happens to me, my children will receive Larry's Images.  I don't know what will happen to the "Print Quality Guarantee" then.  Does anyone know law?  Should I change the wording of the guarantee?

Iris Print

Iris Print
I am arriving at my final procedure for creating these prints.  This print is one of my favorites and those who see it agree.

I have learned to mount the prints after printing, eliminating the problems with controlling the size of the print in my printer driver.  Previously, I did not have much experience printing mounted paper.  I have begun using the Scotch Photo Mount, an acid free spray adhesive.  It is not as "grabby" as the #77 adhesive was.  I can look at the right top corner and then down to the right side moving a little until it aligns.  I can press it in and it stays.  It works well.  I think that I will spray maybe two coats before mounting, then trim to the edge of the print.

I am sanding the edges by hand with my sanding block.  I think the grinder may have been too harsh.  I use 80 grit paper and use six passes per side.  I then angle the block maybe 30 degrees toward the print and sand six more passes.  This smooths the area between the print and the edge.  I then angle the block toward the back and make six more passes.  This creates and nice smooth bevel to take the acid free paint.

The corners get as many passes but are treated gently.  I apply the same bevel there.  I have found that I, for some reason, tend to make the bevel toward the print too great.  I am rectifying the problem.  I have experienced no more print separations which occurred in my early efforts.  I kind of think that spraying on the back of the print and on the backing was needed.

I really like the Sharpie Water Based Paint marker.  The tip is wide making application easy.  I use the same angles described for the sanding but using only one pass at each angle.  It makes a very attractive edge.

After the edges are prepared and painted, I think that I will apply another coat of Premier Art Print Sealer so that the edges are sealed also.
