They used to challenge me to sit by the edge of the pond to see frogs.  If you sit quietly, they will come.

Yes, it is about time for this insect to appear.  I haven't seen the tall sunflower in bloom as yet.  When it blooms, we see this insect.

Question Mark Butterfly

I have seen a few of these this year.  There are two similar appearing butterflies.  This one and the Coma.  I need to view the underside of the rear wing to distinguish them.

They live in wooded areas.

This one was feeding on fecal matter atop the warm "pea" gravel.

Question Mark Butterfly

The water level in "My" vernal pool was receding rapidly.  Algae was caught on the cattail leaf.  It was still wet and the butterfly found it a good place to feed.

We have many of these this season.

They perch, watch for an insect to eat, and fly away.  Presently, they return eating something.
