The light and wind was changing.  I was able to shoot this Deep DOF image before the light went wild along with the wind.

The light became more contrasty and the wind started moving the blossom around in the water.  I went ahead shooting in the hopes of getting something worth while.  I don't think I made it.  

I intended to shoot for Deep DOF and HDR in the above image with 15 captures.  It did not work out the way I planned, thanks to the changing conditions.

Pickerel Weed and Bees

Bumble Bee and dufourea novaeangliae on Pickerel Weed

I learned on Wikipedia that the dufourea novaeangliae bees visit the pickerel weed exclusively.  They are to the right of the right of the bumble bee in this shot.  They have red eyes and they are breeding.

I have come to a greater appreciation of the beauty of this plant by photographing it.

Flash Flooding Bridge Update

Old Bridge Three Parts

The stream looks very tame most of the time.  It is hardly a trickle.  You may remember this recent shot of the old bridge cut up and NOT "removed" from the area.

The recent heavy rains caused flash flooding in the area and our stream had its share.  It was heavy enough to wash old bridge 3 parts down stream.  There is not much clearance for water and debris

to pass under when the water is raised by flash flooding.  The bridge part might have made a good raft, think Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, as it washed down.  Let's hope we can keep our lovely new bridge 2.

Father's Day Gifts

Mobile Phone Telephoto Lens

Chad and Carrie gave me accessories for my cell phone, Samsung Galaxy S4, for Father's Day.  They are such sweet kids!  They both said that I could return the items if I wanted something else.  I think I will, and here is why.

Back Required for Mounting

The "tele" lens requires that I remove the back on my camera/phone and replace it with this one.  The lens then threads into it.  I can't bring myself to remove my phone from its nice safe Otter Box.

 I know that I would not take telephoto shots because of the trouble of adding the lens.  It is a nice looking lens with a machined case, including the tripod mount.

This accessory includes a nice metal table top tripod.

Reticam

This device clamps to the phone and provides tripod mounting directly to the phone.  It is well built but one would need to stay allert not to cruch the phone during attachment.

These parts would require me to carry some sort of pouch on my belt to always have them present.  I have a very nice little Canon A720 integrated lens camera which I can carry on my belt.  It is probably more compact.

I have been looking for "add on" lenses for my phone which would fit it without removing the case.  I have one pair in mind which I will share later if I decide to purchase them.  They are supposed to be released this month, July.

Old Bridge 3 Part

This old bridge 3 part washed down from bridge 3 to new bridge 2.  It looks as though it has done no damage so far.  I am concerned that it may do damage in the furture.  Flash flooding in this stream is greater than we realize when we discard old parts or trees, cut up, on the bank.
