Malachite

Malachite
This sample comes to us from Cove Mine Bisbee, Arizona.

Malachite is a green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral with a chemical composition of Cu2(CO3)(OH)2.  The FOV here is 5.5mm.

Malachite
.  It was one of the first ores used to produce copper metal.  It is of minor importance today as an ore of copper because it is usually found in small quantities and can be sold for higher prices for other types of use.

Malachite
This was captured with 105mm Sigma on 1.4x converter and 136mm of extension.  I think I will revisit it with a 10x objective when I can.

Getting Started IV

Nikon Objective
This objective is recommended by Johan J Ingles as "wickedly sharp".  I believe it is!  It is a 10x objective with 0.25 aperture.  The model number is OFN22 and the working distance is 10.5mm.  I consider that working distance essential for it to be used in my lighting setup, fotodiox LED 440.

Nikon Objective
In addition to the above it is ∞ corrected and does not require a cover slip.  One thing I missed above was that it is plan.  This means the image projected on the sensor is flat, optimal, and not concave which causes the edge to go soft.

Osumilite
It stays sharp to the edges (see the upper right corner).
