Okra

Okra
Okra is flowering plant in the Mallow Family.  The green seed pods are edible
I'm trying to remember if I have tasted it.  I have a friend who grows it in his garden.  I never grew it.  AKA Abelmoschus esculentus, Ladies' fingers, ochro, igbo, gumbo, Quingombo, Vendakkai, Bendakkai and Bhindi.  It is grown Europe Africa, India, Asia, Middle East, and Central America in warm temperate and tropical regions.  It is related to cotton, cocoa, and hibiscus.  The products of it are mucilaginous or slimey.  I am hoping I get an invitation to try to eat it as it belongs to my neighbor Dave.

Okra
I think it could be annual in temperate regions and perennial in tropical regions.  Thanks to Wikipedia for this information.

Descloizite from Los Lamentos Dist. Chihuahua, Mexico

Descloizite
This sample is from Los Lamentos Dist. Chihuahua, Mexico.  I think it is a better sample than the other one I showed last month.

I'm learning that I should make at least one shot like this when I begin to shoot a sample so that I can get the "lay of  the land."  That done, I can aim my microscope objective to show its best parts.  It still has the formula (Pb,Zn)2(OH)VO4

Descloizite
Can you see the location from where the shot came in the shot at the top?

Descloizite
Where as the last shot was at about 9X the above is at almost 15X.  It is the same objective but I mounted the tube lens on 68mm of extension.

Common BlowFly

Common BlowFly
I didn't mention this insect with the other insects which visit the Milkweed because I wanted to learn why is was there.  AKA Calliphora vomitoria is the type species for Calliphora.  It is almost twice the size of the house fly.  Its larva is called maggot and the pupa is called caster.  Wikipedia says it is attracted to flowers with strong odor as well as rotting flesh.  Its eggs are laid by the female where she feeds so I suppose I should look for maggots on the Milkweed plant.  I have not yet seen any!
