It is time for the Iris to bloom again.  Each year I try to think of a way, yet untried, to record their beauty.

Water Walker

Stable Fly and Water Walker

I did the setup for insects the other morning for another reason and ended up sitting by the side of the pond.  I saw this drama unfolding.  The water walker was slowly approaching the fly and the bee beyond.  Its movements reminded me of a cat stalking a mouse.

 The conclusion of this drama is shown below.  The water walker was "lightning" quick.  It was off the lily-pad with fly in its clutches quicker than the eye could see.

Allium

My Brother-in-law, Marty grew this in his yard.  He gave me the bloom.  The bloom consists of many of the above arranged in a sphere shape.

I found, in looking for the species name, that there are an estimated 260 to 979 species world wide.  The species may be aflatunense but we were unable to confirm that.
