Haymaker Mushroom

Haymaker Mushroom
I have become enamored by tiny mushrooms in the grass since I can photograph them.  The reason is CamRanger.

Camera Setup for Maymaker Mushroom
I am learning to do this setup quickly and effectively.  I have decided that, unlike this shot, it is okay to leave a few blades of grass in the image.  Too many block the view and detract.  I have learned to be careful when grooming the scene.  The mushrooms are quite delicate and one bump, if it does not destroy it, will break loose the dew drops.

Rainbow in the Parking Lot

Rainbow in the Parking Lot
I like my Samsung Galaxy S4 and this is one of the reasons.  I was driving home late one afternoon when I saw a rainbow.  I was too tired to go chasing it but thought I would still like to capture it.  I stopped at the local church parking lot and made this shot.  I shan't have to pass up a rainbow in the future because of the lack of a camera.

Summer Grape Tendril

Summer Grape Tendril
These tendril and leaves were over the trial and I noticed them one morning.  The trial was headed downhill at that point.  From the uphill side, it was almost at waist level.  From the other side, I had to use my milk carton and extent the tripod fully.

I tried a couple things.  I used the CamRanger for the high DOF captures.  The terrain caused some difficulty with composition.  I shot two series and blended them like a panorama in photoshop.  It went together such that I had to do "photoshop magic" to join the stem.  This is the other thing that I tried.  Somehow I was able to move back enough to get it all in the image.  I know that I had to raise the camera to do it.  I was able to crop out the rose holder, too.  I liked both results but this was my favorite.

Sun Through Trees

Sun Through Trees
The Weather Channel said it was foggy that morning.  It was.  The fog was in the process of burning off when I made this capture.  There was a log on the ground in the foreground but by the time I finished my setup the light had moved past it.  I tried to dodge it but the effect was not enough.  I have been working the location and others along the stream so that when the conditions are right I can make the capture.  I have noticed that there is a great deal of variation in the conditions.  We had a foggy morning a couple days later and the clouds blocked the sun at the correct time.

Obedient Plant

Obedient Plant
Cheryl Harner helped me with the ID of this plant.  I had erroneously thought it to be foxglove.  Apparently it is not even related.

Obedient Plant
I have been able to achieve these high DOF captures using the CamRanger.  I steady the plant using a rose holder and in some cases such as the one above, a light modifier.  I use an additional tripod to which I attach the rose holder.  I hang the light modifier in a tree or on another tripod.

Common Garter Snake

Common Garter Snake
On the coldest morning lately, I saw this garter snake.  It had crawled up onto a goldenrod plant to get away from the cold ground and into warmer air.

Common Garter Snake
It may have been too cold to crawl away.  The temperature was 47° F.

Common Garter Snake
It allowed this portrait for which I was grateful.  I thanked it.

Stink Bug

Stink Bug
It has almost been too cold, especially in the mornings when I am out, to shoot insects.  I did find a few stink bugs one morning.

Stink Bug
I like to supplement my flash shots with some without flash.

Stink Bug
I think this might be a larva.

Stink Bug
I think that, because the wings are not fully formed.
