Virginia Ctenucha

Virginia Ctenucha
I found out how to pronounce the name of this moth at uTube.

I used the technique mentioned last time to get close to this individual.  I would take a shot and scoot my milk crate closer to take another shot.  I considered this close enough.

I had been noticing something black flying very erratically several times.  It was chucking and jinking so well I could not fix my gaze.  This one flew past me and I saw where it landed.

Question Mark Butterfly

Question Mark Butterfly
This is not my first sighting of a Polygonia butterfly but it is the first one where I could identify it.  I must see the underside of the back wing left or right.

Question Mark Butterfly
The mark is pretty bright and easy to distinguish.

Water Lily

Water Lily
The blooms usually point straight up.  This one just happened to be tilting slightly to an angle I considered ideal and here it is.  I was photographing insects in the pond when I saw it.  I hope you enjoy.

2016 Richland Lithic and Lapidary Society Show

I am making no effort to cover all details of the show.  I went only on Sunday.  It turned out that no one went with me so I could focus on what came to mind.  Two things came to mind, my grandchildren and my photography.

I bought gifts for the grandchildren.

Ed Mosher, National Champion Flint Knapper
It was intrigued watching Ed knap flint and talking to him.  He is from Monticello, Indiana where has a farm and knaps flint.  I captured a short video of the process.  Look for his picture at the bottom.

Flint Knife

Ed was selling flint implements he had knapped.  Some of them were quite expensive.  I could only afford small ones like the one at the left.  He obtains his flint in Newark and other places.

I was so excited to give these to the kids that I only had time to photograph a few.  I gave these to the boys of whom there are six.

Herkimer Diamond

I bought this lovely piece and four others, from Pam and Dan Lauer of Pam's Jewelry Creations.  It is not really diamond.  It is crystal clear quartz which Pam pulled out of the ground herself.  She says it was probably attached to another "baby" crystal which was removed to do the wrap.  I asked her if she faceted it herself and she told me it came from the ground like this.  I think it would be exciting to find such an object.

I finally got around to myself.  I purchased several "macro" samples to photograph as I have time and to share with you.  I am excited to start but currently I have many seasonal subjects.  I purchased these items from
