Broadleaf Arrowhead

Broadleaf Arrowhead
I observed that the buds open from the bottom to the top of the stalk.

Broadleaf Arrowhead
I observed that the plants nearest the shore had finished blooming all together.

Broadleaf Arrowhead
I observed that the plants further from the shore had buds which had not begun to open.

The buds on the stalk I was observing were open about half way up.

I read that is establishes itself a root system from which it grows.  I think the roots are called rhizomes.

Broadleaf Arrowhead

Broadleaf Arrowhead
I found this plant growing in the pond the first day back after my mid-summer hiatus.  The pond level had receded so it was growing from the exposed muddy bottom.

Broadleaf Arrowhead
I thought the leaves resembled Pickeral Weed.  I thought it just another variety.  I was wrong.

Broadleaf Arrowhead With American Hover Fly
If you know me, you might expect that I would hang out to observe what goes on around the plant.  I discovered the hover fly likes it.

Silver

Silver
This is silver from the Atacama Region, Chile.  It is a mineral rich region with copper and the driest dessert in the world.

Silver
I got this sample from Don Smoley in June.  It has characteristics which I have not shown as yet and we will get back to it.

Silver
It has hairy protrusions in the lower right.
