Mydas Flies

Mydas Flies Mating
Gorman Nature Center is all about preservation of the species.  In most cases it is about sex.  I can't seem to tell the story without it.

Megisto-cymeta Little Wood Satyr

Little Wood Satyr
This type of butterfly is especially hard to photograph early in the spring.  Later they settle down and perch so that I can get their picture.  I think that a coolish morning contributes to their docility as they land in the sun to warm.

Six-spotted Fishing Spider

Six-spotted Fishing Spider
I see these around the ponds and vernal pools at Gorman.  It was waiting for breakfast when I shot this.  I like seeing their eight eyes.  According the Wikipedia, they eat vertebrates such as tadpoles and small fish.

Honey Bees

Western Honey Bee
We seem to be having more honey bees this year.  I am glad we have them because they pollinate many plants including farm crops.

I love sitting among the Spiderworts to photograph them.
