Quartz Crystals

Quartz Crystals
When you look at a crystal with facets, you move it to see the reflected light.  For a still photograph of something with facets, it seems to me that one must work with lighting to show the faces to success.  I experimented with this Quarts yesterday.  I wanted to show the large face in the front center.  In addition to the side lights, I used another flood to illuminate that face.  I also lit the bottom so that the overall lightness of the translucent to transparent crystal was not dark.  I think that it was a good exercise for me.

Flint Shapes

Flint Shapes

I think that this is flint.  I have been wondering about the "negative" crystal shapes in it. I have read that flint is a hard sedimentary rock form of the mineral quartz.  I wonder if quartz crystals could have been next to this rock as the sediment formed.  I don't know if that is a wild theory or not.  Never-the-less, I wonder about these shapes.

As a photograph, the negative shape on the bottom and the one above which could be viewed as negative or positive seem to compliment each other.  I find it interesting and I hope that you do too.
