Auto Focus Sharpness II

Lens Align MkII
The boxes for the long ruler and the Lens Align MkII were almost identical and a little confusing at first.

Lens Align MkII Parts
The parts are die cut of a material, not card board, and appear durable enough.  I decided I would not need to carry them in the field.  The assembly was not difficult.

This image depicts the short ruler.

Lens Align MkII Long Scale
These three parts are attached using strong magnets.

Lens Align MkII with Long Scale
I was glad that I purchased the long scale after the process was finished.  I will discuss that later.

Auto Focus Sharpness

Lens Align MkII
I recently read an article in Outdoor Photographer Magazine on fine tuning auto focus on a per lens basis.  I learned that some cameras have a setting whereby one can micro adjust auto focus for a lens.  I discovered that my camera, Canon 7D, is one which supports this feature.

I purchased the LensAlign MkII for this purpose.  Following are my report and reactions.

Lens Align MkII

I decided to try the Long Ruler since I had in mind my Sigma 50-500mm zoom lens, a 1990's model.

Lens Align MkII

The distance to the Lens Align from the camera varies with focal length of the lens being tested.

Lens Align MkII Setup
I did this on a rainy day and the working distance to the lens became an issue as the focal length of the lens increased.  I needed 42.5 feet for my Sigma 50-500 mm.  I had to redo the shots on the second day because I had not aligned the Lens Align MkII properly with the image sensor in the camera.  I eventually found that shooting available light under an incandescent light worked best since I had to shoot through a doorway.  I used spot metering for this.

More tomorrow.

Tiger Salamander Update

Tiger Salamander Tadpole
Previously, the big news was the digestive system.  This time, the big news seems to be a red internal mass below and to the rear of the eyes.

Tiger Salamander Tadpole
My guess would be that it is the circulatory system.

Tiger Salamander Tadpole
I recently obtained an air pump, a stone, and turtle food for them.  They are growing quickly.

Tiger Salamander Tadpole
The initial gills seem to have disappeared long ago.  I am expecting them to re-emerge.  The circulatory system my be a precursor to their return.

Bridge Construction Progress

Bridge 2 Frame
It looks great to me.  I wonder if there will  be support in the center.

Bridge 2 Frame
The bridge's height above the water is not great.  It will, no doubt, be vulnerable to flash flooding.

Mansfield Construction Students and Instructor
I went to the web site for Mansfield City Schools and could not determine the name of the instructor.  He is the right most person in the image.  I must ask the next time I see them.

Out For Lunch II

Bella Bleu's Event Center
We were seated in an intimate dining room with a wonderful view.

Carol had the Grilled Chicken Salad and I had Chili and Cornbread.

Buffet With Barn Door Sliding Door
I ordered the chili and cornbread because I like chili and cornbread.  I REALLY liked Bella's Chili and Cornbread but the taste was a surprise even down to the crackers served with it.  I usually like sweet cornbread.  Unsweetened cornbread has a somewhat bitter taste.  This cornbread was unsweetened, not bitter, but it had a smooth taste.  It appeared to contain some kind of green leaves  I have never tasted Chili and Cornbread like it!

Bella Bleu's Event Center
We drove around the lake for another view.  I had occasion to use the zoom on the S4.  It is entirely digital which degrades image quality a great deal.  This was a moderate zoom.  I had two other shots which I am not showing.  They were made using higher zoom.  Image quality was not good enough to show.

Bella Bleu's Event Center
This shot was made without zoom.  Image quality was much better.

Rita Edwards is the menu designer.  Ray is the chef and Beth was our waitress.  I offer my compliments to all!

Out For Lunch

Bella Bleu's Water's Edge Event Center
Carol decided she would like me to take her to Water's Edge Event Center for lunch the other day.

Bella Bleu's Water's Edge Event Center
I am enjoying the ability to use my phone again as a camera since I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4.

Beautiful Decorations
This arrangement is by the front door.  We both enjoyed it.

Bella Bleu's Water's Edge Event Center
I understand that it is open for lunch Monday - Friday.  It will be open for dinner on at least  two dates in May.  Call 419-281-1187.

More about the excellent food tomorrow.

Stream Bed Series

Stream Bed 2166_9626
This is a bright rendition of the stream bed.  I love watching what the current does to the detritus it carries down stream.  Much of it, the detritus, is trapped on the lee side of the ripples, the right side.  It comes over the top of the ripple and then it looks like it is sucked down into the depression on the downstream side.

I think this shot must be displayed in color.  The shard of terracotta dictates color.  I feel happy as I look at this.
