Hawaiian Coral

Chad and Megan went to Hawaii a couple years ago and brought me this coral.  This shot is at 8x.

It looks to me like the coral may have grown around the darker brown. 

 A little animal, a polyp, lived here and excreted the calcium carbonate for its exoskeleton.  It was probably part of the reef builders group.

Gorman Pond With Ice

Gorman Pond with Ice

Lucas and Loudon were my spotters for these shots.  I noticed how the ice was configured into melted and non melted regions and thought it interesting.

I got an idea of how the bottom drops off from the shore with this light and angle.

They said that they could hardly see the quadcopter.  It stopped at 400 feet, my altitude limit.

Starfish

Starfish

Carol has a number of starfish.  As you probably know they have five arms usually.  They can be found even in the abysmal deeps according to Wikipedia.

Some "stand tall" and have horns.
