Libethenite

Libethenite
I think it looks a little like emerald in color.  This sample is from Kamvala Mine, Democratic Republic on Congo.

Libethenite is a rare copper phosphate hydroxide mineral. It forms striking, dark green orthorhombic crystals. It was discovered in 1823 in Ľubietová, Slovakia and is named after the German name of that locality (Libethen).[1][2] Libethenite has also been found in the Miguel Vacas Mine, Conceição, Vila Viçosa, Évora District, Portugal, and in Tier des Carrières, Cahai, Vielsaim, Stavelot Massif, Luxembourg Province, Belgium.[2] Wikipedia

I think it exciting that it is rare.

Libethenite
It was a pricey sample and I can see why.

Libethenite
These are all of the same sample.  There are a few unclustered crystals.  I thought I might see about some closeups of them.  The image at the top is 14/64" wide.

I have been working on it quite a while.  I feel productive if I yield two daily.  I started around May 16th and the one at the top I made May 26th.  I have also been working on Cornus Florida Rubra which grows in front of my house.  I have seen thrips on it.  I haven't gotten close enough to capture them so you can see them. The Pink Dogwood may be seen here in two days.  I think that I am slow because my blood pressure has been low.  I hope to get that fixed.

Common Blue Violet

Common Blue Violet
Viola sororia, known commonly as the common blue violet, is a short-stemmed herbaceous perennial plant that is native to eastern North America. It is known by a number of common names, including common meadow violet, purple violet, the lesbian flower, woolly blue violet, hooded violet, and wood violet.
It is the state flower of Illinois, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Wisconsin.
Self-seeding freely, in lawns and gardens it can become a weed. Cleistogamous seed heads may also appear on short stems in late summer and early autumn.  Wikipedia

I think they are beautiful.

I just read on Wikipedia that it was known as the lesbian flower in the early 1900's.  That thought bought about a memory that my uncle had a silk one in his car.  I don't suppose he or grandma knew of its meaning.  It was used in lesbian courtship.
