A Turning Point II

Mushroom Cluster
This image combined with the previous images of this species tells me it can grow independently or in clusters.  I considered removing this cluster to examine the "roots" but did not do so because of my established protocol.

My trusted authority has told me that I must examine the "spore print" of the mushroom.  I have read up on the procedure and it involves "harvesting" a sample cap.  You place in on white and black paper and cover it with a bowl to exclude breezes.  The spores are located in the gills or spore holes underneath.  They settle out and land on the paper.  You examine them for color.  That information is something needed to make identifications.

Camera Setup
I did harvest a cap from the cluster which had fallen off.  I am currently trying to obtain a spore print from it, so far without success.

This is an ongoing process.  I have found a web site:  Kuo, M. (2006, November). Making spore prints.   I am preparing myself to collect pertinent data for mushroom ID.
