Bladderwort

Bladderword
This plant is much more common in the pond at Gorman than it was several years ago.  Its bloom reminds me a little of a snap dragon.  I had occasion to get a close view of it last summer while photographing insects.  I was able to capture this image using my insect setup with flash.

This one survived the cuts because it is an interesting plant.  It floats on bladders.  It has no roots to the bottom like the lily-pad.  It gets its food by eating pond life.  That's right, it is carnivorous.

This is the underwater part lying on a lily-pad leaf.
