Mounting Block Located |
Once I have marked locations, I can remove the parts and paint the mounting block. As mentioned in an earlier blog, I use Glidden 2in1- paint and primer in flat black. I mask off the underside so that no paint will run there. PAINT ELSEWHERE not on the mat!
Treated Mounting Mat and Sandblock |
I sand the area where the block will be mounted lightly with 80 grit sandpaper. Sand lightly because the mat is treated with Print Shield and you don't want to remove it.
I am currently using Devcon Home, 5 Minute Epoxy (5 minute clear) for the attachment. It sets quickly and holds well. I use as little as possible. I mix on a piece of wax paper and spread onto the block with a wooden sucker stick. I keep the epoxy away from the edges to prevent it showing. Upon placement onto the mat, I move it around maybe just 1/8 inch. This makes sure I have a good bond. I don't weight it while it sets. I used to and it made a depression that I could see on the print.
I attach the pull down retainer with Elmer's Glue. I weight it only lightly and evenly while it dries for the same reason.
