Indian Hemp

Indian Hemp
The Indian Hemp, aka Dog-bane, is a plant that I sometimes mistake for the Milkweed in the early spring.  Later in the season, the resemblance is not as great.  The seed pods are long and slender and it seems that they open in the spring rather than the fall like the Milkweed.  They are seeds with parachutes as you can see.   I was wondering if the warm dry weather that we had recently caused the pods to dry and crack open.

You might be able to see in this shot, of it in bloom, that the leaves resemble the Milkweed.
