Rattlesnake Master Silhouette

Rattlesnake Master Silhouette
This from Gorman Nature Center in November of 2005.

RM is an herbaceous perineal plant whose name comes from the fact that some native
Americans used its root as an antidote for rattlesnake venom.

Rattlesnake Master Silhouette
It is native to the tall grass prairies of central and Eastern North America  from Minnesota to Ohio and south to Texas and Florida.  Its scientific name is Eryngium yuccifolium and is also known as button eryngo, button snake-root.

I have found it interesting over the years as it has provided me unique images.

Timothy

Timothy Head
This plant grew in about all of the fence rows and escaped eradication because it was self propagating.  It was also in the hay which we fed to the cows.

I liked pulling the head out of the plant and placing in my mouth.  Try it sometime if you never have.

This images shows its reproductive stage.  If you look closely you will see tiny bees pollinating the flowers.

Water Lilies, Thin Ice
This from Gorman Nature Center in December 2011.

Who am I to neglect ideas from painters like Claude Monet.  This was a new way show the Lily Pads for me.
