Apatite

Apatite
This sample comes to us from rough rocks we had around the house.  They are not identified and that is difficult for me.  This is the second one I have tried.

Apatite
This is apatite AKA hydroxylapatite, fluorapatite, and chlorapatite.  The mineral was named by the German geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1786.

Apatite
I compared its color to a sample which has been identified.

Apatite is often mistaken for other minerals.  Defining mineral for "5" on the Mohs scale.  Major component of tooth enamel and bone mineral.  Used in manufacture of fertilizer.
