F-105G Thunderchief Wild Weasel

F-105G Thunderchief Wild Weasel
This is the Wild Weasel variant of the F-105.  It came about because the F-100 was too slow in performing the suppression of AAA fire and enemy radar.  The F-105F, a two seat varient, was converted.  There were only 53 conversions done.

This air intake was not exclusive to the Wild Weasel.

The Wild Weasels flew in advance of the bomb laden F-105's to clear a path through the AAA fire and radars.

The wasp waist is just in front of the bulge shown in the engine area.  I must apologize because I thought this shot showed it better when I wrote yesterday.
