Pond Shots

Grass in the Pond
I have been watching this grass growing into the pond and waiting for the right light.  It came the other morning.  The colors are complementary.  We have had snow on the ice so the smooth patina is gone but the texture of the ice is still interesting.

An interesting phenomenon that I observed that same morning was a circle in the center of the pond.  There is a little platform for turtles and birds in the center.  I floats and is anchored to the bottom.  There was a "crop circle" around it in what appeared to be a perfect circle.
Turtle Rest with Circle
I have done some thinking about this.  The most feasible explanation, to me, is that the platform moved around its anchor just enough to create the circle.  From time-lapse photography I have observed it moving.  The ice was thin and melting and so its movement created this circle.  What do you think caused it?
This shot had some lens flare as discussed in my Jan 22, 2012 blog.  I tried to apply the fix but could not remember it.  I must have deleted it accidentally after I wrote about it.  I decided to become a member of Ask Tim Grey Newsletter so that I could search the archives.  I discovered that Tim is now sending out a PDF monthly digest of the news letters.  I was able to locate the information that I needed to show this ice circle.  I will eventually learn this.  I think that I need more practice so maybe I will create another image with flare.
