Where is the Grocery Store?

We look at the berries and seeds and think they are beautiful.  They are, but they are much more to the creatures which overwinter here.  It is their grocery store.  It is what keeps them alive during the harsh weather.

The goldfinches have been eating tall sunflower seeds.  When those are gone they will probably eat goldenrod seeds.

When those are gone, I am unsure what they eat.  They somehow survive the winter.

Some very kind people feed birds in their backyards.  If you do that, it is important not to stop during the difficult weather months because the birds get used to coming to your feeder.  It becomes their grocery store.
