Wild Strawberry Leaf

These plants, growing at Gorman, produce little 1/4" fruits.  I was surprised to find this leaf with a dew droplet on the end of each tooth of each devide.

I used my new light cube tent for this shot.  Even with the bloom in the tent, the wind can be a problem.

This one was created on a still morning, very fortunate.  I did not use the light tent and place a black canvas case in the background.

I am 99% sure these are wild strawberries and not wood strawberries, closely related, because of the shape of the fruits, remembered from previous years.  A nature walk at Gorman at the time these are fruiting will usually yield an offer to taste them.

I am pretty sure they will be a vendor at the Gem, Mineral, Jewelry, Bead & Fossel Show at the Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7th.

This is a highly rated regional show sponsored by the Richland Lithic and Lapidary Society and led by Tom Kottyan.

Tom is well known in Geological circles and is able to get displays from The Ohio State University for this show.  This year's show is titled "Prehistoric Monsters of the Deep".  Mark you calendar now!

Hop Clover

These are growing all over my yard now.  If you are my neighbor and can't find any in your yard, come on over and see what they look like.  They are tiny, tiny yellow clover blooms.  Wikipedia states that it is from Europe but grows all over the world as an introduced species.  It is considered the original Irish shamrock species.

My lawn guy and friend, Mike, planted these for us last season.  They are blooming beautifully, currently.

I am finding that I look for subjects of a certain size currently because they work best with the kind of photography I am doing.  These are made with focus stacks and I enjoy making them.  I put them into a light cube to make these stacks.

 I just purchased a 30" light tent which has openings in two sides so that I can use it in the field and create great light without uprooting the plant.  Added benefits include wind protection.  I like it a lot but I almost wish I had purchased another 20 " version of it because it is limited where I can use it because of the size.

I think this plant is considered an "invasive species" at Gorman.  It, non-the-less, has a trendy color and might be appreciated by some of my followers.  Let me know what you think.

Time to Remember Those Who Served

I personally, would like to express my appreciation to those who served so that I could serve as a teacher.  Families lost husbands, fathers, wives and mothers.  At the least, families suffered separation for too long.  People lost appendages, minds and self respect.  War is a terrible thing and as I age, I increasingly think that it is asking too much of our young people when we send them into harm's way.  We must find another way!

I walked out one morning and these were every where.  They were quite visible, being covered with dew droplets.

I was disappointed that the spider was not visible in the first shot so I tried to reproduce it.  The spider was in this one but the dew drops were absent.

I kept wanting the reproduce the first one where the spider was clearly represented but one morning I walked out and the webs were all gone.  Can any of my "spider loving" friends explain that to me?  It seemed they were seasonally too early, also.  Do they eat their webs?
