Pyrite filiform chabazite

Pyrite filiform chabazite
This sample is part of the reason that I have not blogged for a while.  The other reason is that Carol, my wife, has been very ill, and the final reason is that I have struggled with my equipment.  It seems like I have been forgetting how to run it.

The two needles are, one with a cross section of a square and the other the cross section of bar.

Pyrite filiform chabazite
The pyrite filiform has been difficult for me to find.  That coupled with my ineptitude held me back.

The chemical formula for it is FeS2, Iron Di-sulfide.  Pyrite is fairly common but the filiform of it is rare.  It has been called Fool's Gold.  When we were young my brother made a "crystal radio"  It had germanium diode detector.  Pyrite can be as sensitive as that.  The radio had a "cat whisker" which the diode.

Pyrite filiform chabazite Camera Setup
For a time I had to revert to using flash in order to stop vibrations in my setup.  That was a big bit of encouragement.  Later I learned to make settings in my camera, mirror lock, and time for the vibrations to subside between captures.
