Lepidocrocite

Lepidocrocite
This sample from Grubb Lake, W. Hempfield Twp., Lancaster Co., PA is an iron oxide-hydroxide mineral.  It is commonly found among iron ore deposits.

Lepidocrocite
I used to think of iron and other ores as just a blob.  I'm surprised how many ores are worth a second more close-up look.

Lepidocrocite
This is the same sample at roughly the same magnification, 2.4X size on the sensor.  It looks to me like lava.

On this day 20 years ago, I married Carol May.  We are looking forward to 2018 and wish you the best.
