Ammonites

Ammonites
I thought of marine crustaceans now extinct when I came to this sample.  They lived 145–66 million years ago according to Wikipedia.  That is while the dinosaurs ruled the earth.  The Dinosaurs, Ammonites and much other life died in some cataclysmic event around 65 million years ago.

Ammonites
This sample is reputedly from Morroco, Africa.  I see lots of samples of fossils for sale at shows which come from that region.

I don't know enough geology to know where the plates were at that time.  The best I could do was see that they were closer and possibly on one side of our planet.  I don't know which way they were moving.  Morocco is currently, as I am sure you know, on the west coast of Africa.  If I remember anything it is the part that was once or soon would be connected the Maine coast.

Ammonites

As I have looked at this sample and thought about it,  I think that I can see shapes which, indeed, say
"Ammonites" to me.
