Bladderwort Blossom |
This plant grows in the pond. It has been becoming more common over the last several years. I have been close to it this year as I sit photographing insects. Its bloom has been compared to the snap dragon and orchid. It does not implant roots in the pond bed as you might expect. It instead has a bladder upon which it floats and which is the trap it uses to catch its food. It is a carnivorous plant, feeding on water fleas, nematodes, mosquito larvae, fish fry and tadpoles.
You can read more about this most interesting plant at Wikipedia.
