Eulalia Grass |
My daughter recently remarked that she would like a print of eulalia grass for her house. Her comment motivated me to work our one clump of the plant while it still remains with seed on it. I captured this one the other morning during high wind. Needless to say, it was difficult to get it sharp, especially using a 500mm lens. I did like the blurred back ground it provided.

The next morning I arrived earlier and worked it more while the sun was in the process of clearing the trees behind. The light is filtered through the trees on this one.

This capture has a slight flair in it. I have since edited it out in the master file. The wind was only very slight to none. I wanted as little DOF as I could tolerate and keep the subject sharp using a 70mm lens. I wanted the background to be as soft as possible. I found that f/8 was the least DOF I could use. It left the background sharper than I had hoped but the shadows helped set off the grass heads to my satisfaction.

I decided to work the scene at least until the sun cleared the trees. It gave more highlights on the grass head. At the time, I thought that might be ideal. Since, I have gravitated more toward the softer light filtered by the trees. What do you think?
