We recently celebrated someone's birthday. I am not allowed to say who it was.
Megan |
I can say that the person was female. We had many lovely females present.
Sasha |
Maybe you can guess who it was.
Tiffany |
It was held at Tiffany's house. She has a very nice deck on which to hold such a party.

Carol was glad that she got to see the grandchildren.

The above shot was made with a Sigma 17-35mm lens and was not part of the following experiment.
I had read about a portrait lens recently. It was 85mm and f/1.4. I don't own such a lens. I was intrigued by the concept of shooting with a shallow depth of field after reading about the lens. I do have a Sigma 105mm, f/2.8 lens. It is two stops slower but I wanted to try to see what it would do to the background. I shot at f/2.8. I used an ISO which would allow a shutter speed fast enough to hand hold the camera. I would use a tripod for a serious portrait but I wanted to see how the background would come out. I am sure that the lens I read about would make even a "less in focus" background.
I must say that I was surprised by the focus contrast between the subject and the background. I achieved sharp focus on the faces using auto focus. The thing that surprised me was that the DOF, depth-of-field, was deep enough for the face. I use more DOF when I shoot in field. I liked the bokeh, blur in the background, of this kind of shot.
