Mica Cap

Mica Cap
I found these mushrooms surrounding a standing, dead, hardwood tree the other day.  I was amazed at how many there were.  I wish I had made an image to show the large number.

Gills Mica Cap
A few hours after collection a self digesting process call autodigestion, aka deliquescenceAccording to Wikipedia, they are edible before this process begins.

Mica Cap Spore Print
I left a cap on a slide over night to collect a spore print.  Twenty-four hours later it was a black gooey mess, which is reportedly full of spores.  This is the edge of the mess which most resembled a conventional sporeprint.

Mica Cap Gills
The stalk literally fell out of the cap.  I would say it is loosely attached!

Galerina Marginata

Galerina Marginata
These mushrooms were growing in a cavity in a log.  LBM's, aka Little Brown Mushrooms, have been driving me crazy since I started photographing mushrooms more aggressively in the fall of 2014.  I sent this picture and others of the same mushrooms to Mushroom Observer and they replied with Galerina marginata.  I am most grateful for their input.  I may be back to having fun photographing mushrooms again.

I want to go back to some of my other "unknown mushroom" photographs to see if they can help me with them.

Pezizales

Pezizales
I took Chad, Megan, Lucas and Loundon on a nature walk at Gorman Nature Center last Sunday.  I billed it as Mushrooms, Wildflowers and Wildlife.

I showed them the mushrooms I have found.  The boys found this mushroom for me and it was one not in my collection of images.  I thought it to be Woodland Cup.  I submitted to Mushroom Observer on the web and got Pezizales.  I think that I was close.

Pezizales
I went back the next day to photograph it.  I had trouble finding it even though I knew it was there.  The boys have sharp eyes.

Pezizales
I have never seen a stalk like that.  Maybe it is not a stalk.

Happy Mother's Day

Downy Yellow Violet
The flower is for all the mothers, those celebrating today, and in remembrance of those who have passed on.  Thanks and love to them all.
