Argiope aurantia is commonly known as the yellow garden spider,[1][2] black and yellow garden spider,[3] golden garden spider,[4] writing spider, zigzag spider, corn spider, or McKinley spider.

It is common to the contiguous united States, Hawaii, Southern Canada, Mexico, and Central America.

It bites it's prey, paralyzing it and wraps it in silk for consumption later.

These spiders may bite if disturbed but the venom is seemingly harmless to humans.
