Mordenite

Mordenite
This sample is from North Island, New Zealand.

The chemical formula is:  (Ca, Na2, K2)Al2Si10O24·7H2O.  The mineral was first described in 1864 by Henry How.  He named it after a small community; Morden, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Mordenite
I was mesmerized by its geography.

This mineral is useful commercially for absorbents, feed supplements, water treatment, sports turf and slow release fertilizer.
