Phillipsite |
Phillipsite is no longer regarded as a singular mineral. It has been placed in the Zeolite group. It is a hydrated, calcium, potassium, aluminium silicate. The large crystal in the lower right of this image is the crystallographic form.
This sample comes from Sugar grove, West Virginia. "The original phillipsite material was from Acireale, Etna Volcanic Complex, Catania Province, Sicily, Italy." (mindat.org) The ancient Romans used it to make a concrete building material which, in time, became more solid than our concrete.
