Decrepit Corn Crib

Decrepit Corn Crib
Corn Cribs gave way to grain bins on almost all farms since picking corn ceased.  There are only a few farmers who pick now.

Decrepit Corn Crib
The slats on the sides provided containment and allowed air passage for drying.  The roof, of course, protected from rain and snow.

Decrepit Corn Crib
Corn was shoveled out for feed as needed.

Peewee Garnet

Peewee Garnet

This is a sample I obtained at a show.  The size is tiny.

Peewee Garnet
I photograph these on rainy days.

Peewee Garnet
It gives me a chance to think about how to make an effective image.  I work with lighting and other things.

Peewee Garnet
I decided that the effective light for this was bottom light provided from a, color corrected, slide sorter.  The translucence is beautiful.  This is my birthstone and I have a faceted one on my college ring which is magnitudes larger than this sample.

You, too, can photograph samples.  Buy them at the Gem, Mineral, Jewelry and Fossil Show on June 4 and 5 at the Richland County Fairgrounds

Wild Strawberry Bloom

Wild Strawberry Bloom
I have noticed that I photograph these at least one time each spring.  I love catching the dew.  The act heightens my awareness of the plant and I find myself looking for a better one.

Wild Strawberry Bloom
I am not sure if this is a discovery for me or something I just forgot.  I found this one with six petals.  If not a better photograph, it still documents the bloom.

Wild Strawberry Bloom
You can see the rose holder in this one.  The only reason it is shown is that it has four petals.

Child's Toy

Child's Toy
You can hear the echos of times past in the solitude.  This is from a dilapidated corn crib I recently photographed.  I wonder if the horn still sounds.

White-tailed Deer

White-tailed Deer
This is the first white-tailed deer I have seen at Gorman for over a year.  I have seen tracks but no deer.  I guess I have just been there at the wrong time.
