Mallard Pair

Mallard Female
These two were swimming on the frog pond the other morning.

Mallard Drake
They allowed me to photograph them for which I am grateful.

Mallard Pair
I wonder if they are looking for a nesting place.

Garnet The Gem

Garnet at 8X
This is an extreme closeup of a piece of garnet I purchased at a show.  Garnet is my birthstone gem.  This one, however; is not large enough to wear on a ring.

Garnet
It has only tiny granules.

Garnet
It is glued to the little card and somehow cracked.

Garnet are a group of silicate minerals that have been used since the Bronze Age as gemstones and abrasivesWikipedia

Garnet
I folded the card on the break to expose the inner granules.

Turkey Tail Fungus

Turkey Tail Fungus
The near white edges caught my attention right away.  It had been raining for the last day or more and the wetness made some things darker.  I wanted my exposure for the white edges to be spot on and it was just below going overexposed.  I used 1/2 stop of flash.  I might add that this is a focus stack with only the selected things in focus.  I feel that I succeeded in creating my vision.
