Exposure

Cerussite
This sample is from Manitan Mine in Loudville Mass.  It is an important ore of lead.  It is sometimes called White Lead Ore.

Exposure the Camera Wanted
The detail has subsided in the whites and mineral faces.  Even with my LED lights and softboxes, I must underexpose an image like this 1 to 1.5 stops as I did in the image at the top.  I shoot in RAW giving me maximum latitude in adjusting exposure and other things in Photoshop.

Cerussite Panorama.
Photoshop did a nice job of stitching two images into this panorama.

Calcite

Calcite on Calcite
Calcite is formed when water dissolves limestone and it drips depositing the calcite, calcium carbonate.  Limestone, not a very colorful stone, is grayish.  Limestone is a sedimentary rock and is formed at the bottom of a shallow sea by the skeletal fragments of coral, mollusks, and forams.  Later, rainwater falls on the limestone, dissolving it with the carbonic acid created when the CO2 in the air dissolves into the H20 in the air.  This weak acid drains down cracks in the limestone and deposits the calcite.

Calcite comes in many colors depending the color of its impurities. The calcite above is whitish and brownish.  You can find it in almost any color at ebay.

Orange Calcite
Orange calcite is said to have healing properties.

You can see some of its granular properties in this image.
