Bull Thistle

Herkimer Diamond

Herkimer Diamond
This is a crystal, doubly terminated, of quartz.  They grow one place in the world, as far as I know, and that is Herkimer, New York, or there-bouts.  This sample is supposed to have a bubble inside.  The sample is2.35X on the sensor.

It was in need of cleaning which I did.  I was brushing it and lost  it, never to find it again.  I have others and plan on making new images of them.  I will show you later.

White Crysanthemum
You would not know it now, but I grew this here at the house in 2005.

Cupric Garnet

Cupric Garnet
Chalcotrichite, Cupric Garnet, is an oxide of copper.  It is a secondary mineral which forms in the oxidized zone of copper sulfide deposits. It frequently occurs in association with native copper, azurite, chrysocolla, malachite, tenorite and a variety of iron oxide minerals.[4] It is known as ruby copper due to its distinctive red color. (Wikipedia)

Wikipedia says there is one place worldwide, Namibia, which had gem size crystals.  It has since been mined out.  The more prevalent crystals are obelisks, parallel, and tiny as shown above.

I found it quite difficult to photograph.
