Ladybug

Nine-spotted Ladybug Beatle
I am pretty sure this is a young one.  The name Lady"bug" is really a misnomer since it is a beetle.  Wikipedia states that a more correct name would be:  spotted pink ladybeetle.

I have known houses where ladybugs congregated in the fall.  The windows would be full of them.  They can be quite a nuisance.  One must sweep them up daily.

I read that they are a predator for aphids which makes them a desirable addition to the garden for aphid control.  They are sold commercially for this purpose.

Wulfenite II

Wulfenite Crystal
I found reflective crystals to be difficult to photograph.  It is very easy to have way too much light which reflects around the scene.  I found that I needed to underexpose the crystal in order to produce a good image.

Wulfenite Setup
Even with this shot you may notice how faint the flash, the only lighting, is.  The purpose is mentioned above.

Bumble Bee

Common Eastern Bumble Bee
These bees live throughout the Eastern United States from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico.  They are underground dwellers.  The have a queen, workers and males.  They are considered one of the most essential pollinators and are a primary force in the food supply network without whom the farm industry would suffer great loss.

Wulfenite

Wulfenite
You may remember I showed the sample from Arizona previously.  We said it was a lead molybdate mineral, a lead ore.

Wulfenite
I purchased this sample from Don Smoley.  This sample seems to be only crystals.
