Eastern Amber-wing

Eastern Amber-wing
I first noticed this dragonfly at Terry and Marsha Lloyd's pond near Logan, Ohio.  I have since found them at Gorman Nature Center. I have seen them all around the pond but they seem more prevalent at the Southwest corner.

I would describe them as a small dragonfly.  They are very active but perch at the same spot.

Brachiopod

rhynchonelidae Brachiopod
This is a hinge view of the bivalve.  It is extinct and lived during the Ordovician-Devonian eras.  It was small and marine, sea, in nature.  It is found in Central and Eastern USA.  Did I mention that it is a fossel which can be found in Ohio?  It existed 360 to 505 million years ago.

Blue Dasher Dragonfly

Blue Dasher Dragonfly Male
The Blue Dasher is a medium to small sized dragonfly.  They are quite common at Gorman.

Blue Dasher Dragonfly Male
The males are quite photogenic because they perch often and return to the same perch.

Blue Dasher Dragonfly Female
The female ,on the other hand, is difficult to photograph because she is laying eggs, ovipositing.  You almost have to catch her in flight.  They mate in a wheel.

Blue Dasher Female
They are one of my favorite dragonflies to photograph as you may have noted from the above comments.

They can also be slightly comical.

Blue Dasher Male Turning His Head
I think they like to pose.
