July 4th Weekend Means Airplanes To Me

Lockheed C-130 Hercules
I have made a print of this image.  I have provided this information with it.

"The C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport designed and built by Lockeed, now Lockheed Martin.  Unit cost for the H model was $ 30.1 million.  Versatility is the hallmark term for this air-frame.  If you can think of it, the Hercules has probably done it."

I see that Airport Day is scheduled for Saturday, July 2, 2016.  Admission is free and it makes a great family activity.  Maybe I will see you there.

Janet and Albert Ousley

Janet and Albert Ousley
I see this lovely couple on the trails now and again.  It is hard for me to believe they are in their eighty's.  The hiking must agree with them.

Umbrella Inky Cap Mushroom

Umbrella Inky Cap Mushroom
This individual measured 5/8" across.

A mushroom is asexual, i.e. it produces spores instead of eggs.  When this mushroom fruits, i.e. drops its mature spores, it then self decomposes.  It forms at night after a rain and will not last through the following day.  If it does not fruit quickly enough, it dries up when the sun hits it.

It grows on the grassy trails at Gorman.  You must get there early to see it.  If I am late, I look in shady places.

Common Whitetail Dragonfly

Common Whitetail Dragonfly Male
These show up each year at certain point, not the pond, on the trail.

Common Whitetail Dragonfly Female
It is hard for me to believe they are the same species because of different appearance.

Common Whitetail Dragonfly Teneral
They change greatly in size and appearance after the molt.

Common Whitetail Dragonfly Female
This image with its "lacy" background holds a certain appeal for me.  It is also one of the first I shot of this individual.  I have found that shooting early and often, each time moving slightly closer helps achieve the close shot I covet.
