Planting Soy Beans

John Deere 1590 No-till Grain Drill
When the weather finally permitted, Keith Kisling and his assistant went to work with a vengeance, one running this grain drill.

No-till has long since become important as the weather seems less and less cooperative with farming.

They can cover lots of ground in a short time.

Wild Geranium

Wild Geranium

Wild Geranium is common throughout our woods.  Also known as spotted cranes-bill, wild cranes bill, alum root, alum bloom, old maid's nightcap is a perennial herbaceous plant growing from a rhizome.  I like to capture at least one image each season.

Periodical Cicada

Periodical Cicada
This is the year!  I am seeing many at Gorman.  They lived underground feeding on the fluids from trees for 17 years.  At the appointed time they burrow to the surface as a mature larva.

 There are several pictured.

I found this one walking across a path on a rainy day.  I am hoping for a timelapse of the molt.  I am at two weeks and counting as I write.

Periodical Cicada Teneral After Molt
It is hard to believe that such a large insect could climb out of such a small exoskeleton but they do.

I doubt they will win any beauty contests during their visit but they have a nice sound.  (Look at the bottom of the page)

Eckert South Barn

Eckert South Barn
I have a new, to me, farm on which to photograph.  A house used to stand across the lane from the barn until it collapsed.  It, reportedly, had beautiful woodwork in it.

The foundation for the house is just out of this image to the right.

I think there will be beans in this field this season.

Welcome Drew and Deb Eckert to the Larry's Images family.
