Eastern Towhee

Eastern Towhee
I am pleased when the birds arrive before the leaves.  This bird was previously known as the Rufus Sided Towhee.

Orthoceras Fossil

Orthoceras
The creature lived in this bowl and looked a little like a squid.  It supposedly had eyes and short tentacles.

The depression in the bottom of the bowl was called a siptal neck according to Wikipedia.  It was a tube which connected the current living space to previous ones.  Much like a snail, as it grows, it moves on and builds a new larger living space.  Wikipedia has an artists conception of how this creature might have appeared.

Orthoceras
This fossil is from about 400 million years ago.  It has the bowl on one end and a rounded rear end.

Orthoceras
The creature was an invertebrate, having no skeleton and having an exoskeleton in the form of a shell.  When the creature reached the end of its life the shell fossilized over time and became rock.

GNC Covered Bridge
I am doing a series on the bridges at Gorman.

Covered Bridge
This was a new angle for me.  I liked it and I hope you do too.
