Alfalfa Clover

Alfalfa Clover
This clover is highly prized as feed for cattle.  We don't have any, to my knowledge, at Gorman.  I was so glad to add its images to my collection.  Kieth does the same thing my father did.  He plants clover, including Alfalfa, and grass in a field and keeps it for hay for several years.

Kissling's "My Tree"

My Tree
In April, 2001; I was extremely passionate about photography and requested permission from Keith Kissling to photograph the dead tree in his pasture.  If I remember correctly, he kept his cows pinned up that night so that I could visit the field for moonrise.

My Tree at Moonrise
Just as the moon was clearing the horizon, a thunderstorm came up from the West.  I was out in the field with my equipment and it came up fast.  I had roughly a 1/3 mile to walk back to my truck.

My Tree Lit by Lightning
I had to pack up quickly, walk through the pasture, looking for cow piles by the lightning flashes, and make sure the gate was closed.  I got soaked but my equipment survived (priorities).

Kieth told me recently that the print I made (I think it is the first one) still hangs in his living room.  I have many other shots of this tree but I think these are the best.  I wonder how it would have looked from the air.  It has long since fallen.

Kissling Farm on Middle Bellville

Kissling Farm Home
I have known Keith Kissling since 2001 when he allowed me to photograph a dead three in his pasture.  These recent images of his house and buildings, I captured from 400 ft using the DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone.

Barns and Pond
This series of pictures represents my jumping a hurdle in the control of the drone.  I had some issues at first using my Verizen Samsung Galaxy S4 phone with the transmitter.  We found that it was not compatible and I replaced it with an Apple Ipad Mini 2.  Using the Apple device I made these captures successfully.

If you know of anyone wanted their place photographed from the air have them contact me at 419-565-5207.

Spreadwing Damselflies

Amberwinged Spreadwing Female teneral
The Damselflies, like other full metamorphosis insects, must remain semi-inactive while their exoskeleton forms after molting.  Their appearance changes during this period and they are difficult to identify.  I have noticed that during this period they land and hold their wings spread but then they fold them like other dragonflies.

If I remember correctly, these first two are of the same individual.

Slender Spreadwing Female
I think that this one may be teneral as well. I am becoming more aware of the Spreadwing Dragonflies or we have more than we used to.

Slender Spreadwing Male
This image demonstrates the characteristic light colored (pale vein) wing tips of both sexes.
