Ruby Meadowhawk Dragonfly

Ruby Meadowhawk Male
These dragonflies are becoming numerous at Gorman.

Ruby Meadowhawk Male
They are more orange when immature.  I called this one a White-faced Meadowhawk but it may be a Ruby.

Ruby Meadowhawk Female
I called this one a Ruby Meadowhawk Female.

Kissling Tree

Kissling Cornfield
Keith has a tree which I have been watching from the road for several years.  I knew he would let me go back to see it but I just never stopped.  It is located on the tip of the second point of trees on the left.

Kissling Tree
It has pinnate leaves as best I can see from a distance.

Kissling Tree

I am currently wondering if it could be a Walnut Tree.

Kissling Tree
Time will tell.

Mourning Cloak Butterfly

Mourning Cloak Butterfly
This is the first image in my collection of the Mourning Cloak.  Their life cycle goes through trees not meadow plants.  They do not visit flowers and drink nectar.  Instead, they feed on fecal matter.  This one was enjoying the warmth from the pea sized gravel and the sun.  It was feeding also.  It was so close, I wished to move back but was afraid I might frighten it.

Vernal Pools and Bridge

Vernal Pool that I call "My"
There is dragonfly and damsel fly activity at this pool.  The jury is still out on whether it will be a good shooting season there.

GNC Covered Bridge
Walking to the Covered Bridge, you pass the above vernal pool.

Northeast Vernal Pool
This vernal pool is located to the Northeast after you cross the Covered Bridge.  The water level is receding as is characteristic for vernal pools at this time of year.  It is important for the mud to dry out so that the shrimp will hatch.

Azure Bluet Male

Azure Bluet Male
The vernal pool that I call, "My" has had what I might call an algae bloom.  Insects are landing on the algae.  This damselfly did so too.
