Pondhawk Dragonflies

Eastern Pondhawk Male
I have seen dragonflies ovipositing.  It is the female that does so, i. e. lays eggs.

Monarch Butterfly

Monarch Caterpillar 5th Instar
I have no confirmed sightings of a Monarch Butterfly as yet this season (8-1-15).  I have a report of Monarch Eggs.  I have seen several (4 - 6) butterflies which could have been either Monarch or Viceroy but did not get a close enough look.

Moth Drama

Ctenucha_Virginca Moth
We had a heavy dew the other morning.  I found this moth which had probably stayed over night on the milkweed leaf.  There was so much dew that the slug could crawl up the plant in the moisture and eat the moth.

Ohio Spiderwort

Ohio Spiderwort
The spiderwort has finished blooming for this season.  They were almost finished when I made these captures.

Ohio Spiderwort
I have been meaning to ask if these different color blooms are from a different plant species.  I emailed these images to Amanda Kriner and who checked with the people who know.  The answer was that they are both Ohio Spiderwort.
